Zephyr Transmission Project

This is a 525-mile long 500-kV DC transmission line that will transport energy from the $4 billion Pathfinder Renewable Wind Energy project in Chugwater, Wyoming to an underground energy storage facility in Utah. It replaces the previously proposed 850 mile Zephyr transmission project. The project that was originally proposed by TransCanada Energy and the rights were acquired by DATC in 2011.  The project will facilitate energy transfer between Wyoming and the Southwestern states. The project is scheduled for completion in 2023.  The Pathfinder wind project is committed to 2,100 MW of the 3,000 MW capacity transmission project.  There will be AC/DC converter stations constructed and each end of the line.   DATC will formally submit their proposal to the Southern California Public Power Authority by early 2015. The project is estimated to cost $2.6 billion.
