Appalachian Power’s Wythe Area Improvement project consists of 12.6 miles of double circuit and 5.1 miles single circuit 138- kV transmission lines to protect the electric service to customers in Wythe, Carroll, Grayson and Smyth counties. The line will connect the company’s Jacksons Ferry, Progress Park and Wythe substations and will be constructed using a combination of lattice and single pole structures. The total project, including substation upgrades, is estimated to cost about $100m. The company expects to begin work in 2016, with completion expected in 2018.
