We Energies and American Transmission Co. built an electric system reinforcement project that involved the construction of a new We Energies substation adjacent to the existing Milwaukee County Substation and Milwaukee County Power Plant at 93rd Street and Watertown Plank Road and the construction of two 138-kilovolt American Transmission Co. transmission lines, each approximately two miles, to connect with the new We Energies substation. The project was needed to improve the reliability of the electric system that serves an area of the county that includes the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center and the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Demand in the area is expected to double as soon as 2016. The project was completed May 2015 at an estimated cost of $33.5m.
