The TransWest Express Project, a joint project by WAPA and Anschutz, is a proposed transmisison line that will deliver wind energy to Arizona, California and Nevada from Wyoming and improve grid reliability. In September, 2011 the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) agreed to help fund the development stages of the project. The project involves the proposed construction of 730 miles of 600 kV HVDC line. In October 2011, the TransWest project was selected by the Rapid Response Pilot Project for accelerated permitting and other government processes. The project is expected to be completed late 2021 or early 2022.
