When this eight segment project is constructed it will mark the completion of the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project. The new lines will open the avenue to tap renewable energy sources to meet state RPS goals. The project involves 250 miles of combination 500 kV and 220 kV lines, new substations and miscelaneous upgrades. The project will run from the Cottonwood substation through the new Windward substation on to Antelope and the Vincent Substations. At Vincent the project splits east and west with one segment running through two stations on to Mesa. The other running west through Hondo and merging back near Mesa. The project also includes segments through the more heavily populated areas of Chino and Mira Loma. In November of 2011, the CPUC granted Chino with a partial stay regarding segment 8A to conduct further studies of the impact of construction. During the summer of 2013, a decision was reached by the California Public Utility Commission to place approximately 3.5 miles of the project underground as it passes through the city of Chino Hills, CA. In January 2014, PAR Electrical Contractors Inc., a Quanta Services company, was selected by Southern California Edison to complete segment seven and portions of segment eight. The project as a whole will be completed by late 2016.
