CAISO, as part of an identified reliability needed project, proposed the Sycamore-Penasquiots 230-kV transmission line. The line will travel approximately 16.4 miles with an in-service date by June 2018. Four companies originally applied for sponsoring of the project, with San Diego Gas & Electric and Citizens Energy ultimately selected. The proposed transmission line will provide a means by which renewable generation in the ISO interconnection queue can effectively be delivered to existing grid. It is still undecided what the exact voltage type of the line will be: with AC or DC, underground or above being considered.
