Kentucky Power and Kentucky Transmission Co., affiliates of American Electric Power, plan to build a more reliable power grid in eastern Kentucky by investing approximately $30 million into upgrading the transmission system. The Stanville Area Improvements Project consists of building a substation and less than a mile of 138 kV transmission line to reduce the amount of extended outages for customers in Floyd and Pike counties. Kentucky Power’s Betsy Lane Substation will be retired. Construction is expected to start early 2018 and be completed by the end of the year.
