St. Cloud to Monticello 345-kV Project

St.Cloud to Monticello 345-kV Project is a 28-mile line, 345-kV transmission line.  The double circuit transmission line is the first segment of the Fargo to St. Cloud to Monticello project completed.  The project improves regional reliability in north central Minnesota and the growing St. Cloud area. The transmission line is between the new Quarry Substation west of St. Cloud (Waite Park) and the existing Monticello Substation. St.Cloud to Monticello 345-kV Project is part of CapX2020, which is a joint initiative of 11 transmission-owning utilities in Minnesota and the surrounding region to expand the electric transmission grid to ensure continued reliable and affordable service. The utilities involved in CAPX 2020 include Xcel Energy, Great River Energy, ALLETE (Minnesota Power) , Minnkota Power Cooperative, Otter Tail Power, Central Minnesota Power Municipal Power Agency, Dairyland Power Cooperative, Missouri River Energy Services, Rochester Public Utilities, Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency and WPPI Energy. On December 21, 2011, the project was placed into service. The transmission line was on time and on budget.
