The San Luis Transmission Project involves a new 85-mile, 500-kV transmission line between Tracy and the Los Banos substations; a new 230-kV line at about 20 miles between San Luis and Dos Amigos substations; a 3-mile, 230-kV line connecting the San Luis and Los Banos substation; and finally a 7-mile, 70-kV line connecting the San Luis and O’Neill substations. The project is needed because WAPA’s transmission contract with Pacific Gas & Electric, under which power is transmitted to the San Luis Unit, will end in the spring of 2016. Duke American Transmission Company (DATC) is partnering with WAPA. Project construction is set for 2021 with completion in 2023.
