The RTI Tracy-Viewland 345 kV project is a 79-mile, 345 kV transmission line that will run northwest from east of Reno area to Viewland 345 kV substation along Alturas 345 kV line. The project is designed to move renewable energy from NV Energy RTI zone 2 north to Tracy 345 kV substation for export to California and the Desert Southwest. On July 27, 2012, NV Energy announced that it has dropped plans to build a set of power lines to help export renewable energy to California because of a lack of interest from renewable developers.
