The Rhode Island Reliability Project runs from Kent County Rhode Island to West Farnum, Massachusetts. Construction started in 2011 and was completed in early 2013. The project was needed to alleviate congestion and ensure continued reliability in the Rhode Island area. Northeast Utilities has filed with FERC for Transmission Incentives under Order 679. The project cost estimate of $315 million included 345 kV single, two 115 kV single lines, and substation and terminal upgrades. This was one of four projects that make up the New England East-West Solution (NEEWS).
