Pony Creek Transmission Project

The Pony Creek Transmission Project involves a new Pony Creek substation and 21.5-mile, 230-kV transmission line connecting the Pony Creek substation to the Keota substation near Grover, CO. A single-circuit line will run for 18 miles from the Keota substation to the existing Redbox substation on wood H-frame structures in a planned 150-foot right of way. That line will continue for 3.5 miles from the Redbox substation to the Pony Creek substation on one side of new double-circuit transmission towers. On the remaining side of the double-circuit towers, Tri-State will install a second circuit connecting the Redbox and Pony Creek substations. The second circuit will be 230-kV capable, but will operate initially at 115-kV. The project has an estimated cost of $54.3m with an in-service date of late 2017.
