The Northern Pass transmission project involves 239 miles of 300-kV DC and 40 miles of 345-kV AC transmission lines and would bring renewable energy from Quebec into New Hampshire to satisfy the need for additional renewable energy in New England. In August 2015, it was announced that 60 miles of the total route will be placed underground. Of the total 239 miles of the project, 47 miles are in Quebec and being developed by Hydro-Quebec. The remainder, 192 miles, will be in New Hampshire and are being developed by Eversource.
