Lobo to Rio Bravo to North Edinburg project is a 156-mile, 345-kV transmission line that originates at Lobo and terminates in North Edinburg, Texas. The project, which is sponsored by Electric Transmission Texas, will cost $398 million. The project received final approval from the PUCT in May 2013. The project involves adding a third 345-kV circuit between the Laredo area and the Rio Grande Valley area. It would enhance transfer capability and reduce thermal events common during peaking times in the area. The project is also expected to lower overall costs due to congestion and open the door for wind energy transfers in the south region.
