ITC Holdings Corp. is planning on building an underwater high-voltage direct-current transmission line which would connect between Ontario and Pennsylvania under Lake Erie. The project is being planned in order to bring renewable, gas and nuclear generation to the PJM grid. The project would compose of two solid, six-inch transmission cables from Nanticoke, ON, to Erie County, PA. The project is being independently funded at an amount of near $1bn and has a targeted in-service date of 2020 ITC acquired the rights to the project from Lake Erie Power Corp. in June 2014.
