The Hospital to Herning project is actually phase two of the greater Eklutana Generating Station project. This second, shorter tranmsion line will connect the Hospital substation in the town of Herning, AK, to the Herning substation located on South Denali Street. The project includes a 115-kV rated double circuit line with an estimated price tag of $5.7m to $9m depending on the final route chosen. Currently, MEA is evaluating four route options which range from 6.4 to 12.9 miles in length. In August 2013, Matanuska Electric Association was ordered by the city of Wasilla to bury to the line. Completion of the project is expected in 2014.
