Coopersburg to Quakertown

The Coopersburg to Quakertown project is a 7-mile, double-circuit 138kV line that replaces an existing 75-plus year-old transmission line. The new line connect PPL Electric Utilities’ Coopersburg 69 – 12 kV substation located in Upper Saucon Township with the 69 kV transmission line serving Quakertown Borough’s 69 – 12 kV substation in Richland Township. A new substation located in Springfeild, PA, was also part of the construction. The estimated cost of this project was $30 million. Construction began, with tree clearing operations, on the line in April 2012 and was put into service August 2013.
