The Chickahominy to Skiffes Creek 500kV Line would have been a 38-mile running from just north of Lightfoot Substation to the proposed Skiffes Creek Switching Station. The line was expected to enter service in Summer 2015. Total costs of the Chickahominy to Skiffes Creek, Skiffes Creek to Whealton transmission lines and the Skiffes Creek Switching Station were estimated to be between $150 million and $250 million. This project would have supplied needed capacity to serve the local area and critical military facilities; supported local growth and economic development in central and eastern Virginia; and provided reliability improvements for fewer service interruptions and shorter durations when an outage does occur. In 2013, Dominion chose the Surry to Skiffes Creek 500kV transmission line route, cancelling the Chickahominy to Skiffes Creek 500kV transmission line route.
