The Big Stone South to Brookings project involves 70 miles of new 345-kV double-circuit line with poles capable of adding another double-circuit in the future. Along with the new 345-kV line, the project cost estimate includes a new substation near Big Stone and a 2-mile spur of 230-kV single circuit line. The project is located in one of the best wind generation resource areas in the country, and will dramatically increase the ability to integrate new generation, according to the project partners. The project is estimated to facilitate up to 800 MW of new generation. The project was designated a multi-value project (MVP) in the Midwest ISO’s 2011 MTEP plan, and it is also part of the CapX2020 plan.
