The Badger Coulee Transmission Line Project is a planned 345-kV line by American Transmission Company. The purpose of the line is to address electric system reliability issues while also providing economic savings and support of renewable energy in the area. The line would originate at the southern end point of ATC’s existing North Madison substation in the town of Vienna, Wis. From there, it would continue to ATC’s Cardinal substation in Middleton, Wis., and finally terminate at Xcel Energy’s new Briggs Road substation near Holmen, Wis. This approximately 180-mile transmission line began construction in 2016 and is anticipated to be complete in 2018.
