The Maryland Public Service Commission on Dec. 22, 2020, said that it provides notice that the application period to facilitate the construction of at least 1,200 MW of “Round 2 offshore wind projects” officially began that day and, unless extended, will conclude at the close of business on June 21, 2021.
As noted in the filing, the Clean Energy Jobs Act of 2019 directed the commission to provide additional offshore wind application periods to facilitate the construction of at least 1,200 MW of Round 2 offshore wind projects.
In compliance with the law, the commission added, it contracted the services of independent consultants, ICF Resources, LLC (ICF), to assist in the evaluation of applications. An application was submitted to ICF on Dec. 10, 2020, through a dedicated and secure website, the commission said, noting that ICF on Dec. 22, 2020, notified the offshore wind applicant and the commission that the submitted application is deemed administratively complete.
The commission said that any party interested in submitting a proposed offshore wind project application is encouraged to visit the dedicated website hosted by ICF on behalf of the commission at: https://www.mdoffshorewindapp.com/.
Among other things, the commission noted that during the application period, details pertaining to any filed application(s) remain confidential under a closed, sealed bid process.
