Milton, VT (5 September 2019) – Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) is inviting neighbors in the Milton area, and other interested people, to an informational session about a proposed project to upgrade the Sand Bar substation located in Milton. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Milton Library, 39 Bombardier Road in Milton, VT. VELCO project management and community outreach staff will explain the proposed project and answer any questions.
The meeting is one of several steps leading up to a formal request for a permit to construct the project from the Vermont Public Utility Commission. The Commission requires that VELCO provide 45 days’ notice, including a detailed project description, to local select boards and other officials. This enables community leaders to review and discuss the project’s impacts with residents, and to provide input before formal proceedings begin with the Commission. VELCO provided the 45-day notice to the Milton Select Board and Planning Commission, and the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission on August 8, 2019.
The Sand Bar substation project as proposed would replace equipment within the substation. All work will be completed within the substation fence.
VELCO plans to formally apply to the Vermont Public Utility Commission for project approval on September 23. Subject to Commission approval, construction will begin in summer 2020 and be completed within a year.
