National Grid to begin site preparation, construction soon on two substation projects

Niagara Mohawk Power d/b/a National Grid recently filed with the New York State Public Service Commission construction commencement notices for the Lasher Road Substation Project and the Sodeman Road Project.

The company said that it anticipates that it will begin site preparation and construction of its Lasher Road project on or about March 20.

The project involves building the new 115/13.2-kV transmission switching and distribution substation, as well as adjoining transmission line extensions. Once built, the company added, the Lasher Road substation will be interconnected to National Grid’s existing 115-kV Spier Falls to Rotterdam Transmission Line #2, its existing 115-kV Luther Forest to Rotterdam Line #1, and its existing 115-kV Spier Falls to Luther Forest Line #302 in the Town of Ballston, Saratoga County, N.Y.

The approved substation site will be located on an approximately 36-acre parcel of land, located north of Randall Road east of the intersection of Randall Road and Lasher Road, in Ballston, the company said.

In a separate notice, the company said that it anticipates that it will begin site preparation and construction of its Sodeman Road project on or about March 19.

The project involves building the new 115/13.2-kV substation as well as adjoining transmission line taps. Once built, the company added, the Sodeman Road substation will be interconnected to National Grid’s existing 115-kV Spier Falls to Rotterdam Transmission Line 2 and its existing 115-kV Spier Falls to Luther Forest Transmission Line in the Town of Milton, Saratoga County.

The approved substation site is a 5.7-acre parcel of land, located south of State Route 29, near its intersections with Murray Road (County Route 104) and Sodeman Road, in Milton, National Grid said.
