Minnkota Power: MPL Laporte 115-kV line energized in December 2017

Minnkota Power Cooperative on Feb. 1 told the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission that the MPL Laporte 115-kV Transmission Line is complete and was energized on Dec. 14, 2017.

As noted in the filing, the commission in June 2017 issued an order granting Minnkota Power a route permit for the project in Clearwater and Hubbard counties.

The project includes construction of about 9.4 miles of new overhead, 115-kV transmission line and construction of the new Laporte MPL substation.

Minnkota Power added that a petition for reconsideration was filed in July 2017, resulting in a stay of the order. Upon taking up that reconsideration in August 2017, the commission denied the reconsideration, and an order was subsequently issued, restoring the previous order granting the route permit, Minnkota Power said.

A judge in October 2017 granted Minnkota Power’s petition for “quick take,” Minnkota Power said, adding that it was granted an easement on land in relation to its petition. A hearing was held with condemnation commissioners in Park Rapids, Minn., on Jan. 8-9, and the commissioners have yet to make a decision in the matter, Minnkota Power said.

The new substation is complete and was energized on Dec. 19, 2017, Minnkota Power said.
