American Electric Power’s (NYSE:AEP) AEP Ohio and AEP Ohio Transmission Company will hold an open house on Sept. 14 in Hillsboro, Ohio, regarding the approximately $30m Liberty-Buckskin Area Improvements project, according to an Aug. 31 statement.
The project will update an existing 69-kV transmission line to improve the region’s electric service reliability, the statement noted.
According to a project fact sheet, the existing line has reached an age where it needs to be replaced.
The company is rebuilding the 20-mile line that runs through Liberty, Madison, and Paint townships in Highland County, as well as Buckskin and Paint townships in Ross County, according to the statement.
The project includes rebuilding about 17 miles of the existing line in the current right of way, and in some cases supplementing current easements, the statement noted, adding that the remaining three miles will require construction in new areas as well as a line reroute.
The companies said they are asking for input on the proposed study segments so that they can determine a route for the new section of line.
According to the fact sheet, transmission line construction will begin in fall 2018, and the project will be complete in summer 2020.
