American Electric Power’s (NYSE:AEP) Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) on May 17 said that construction is expected to begin in the fall on its estimated $25m Summer Grove Area Improvements Project in the Summer Grove area of Shreveport, La.
The company said that the project involves building about 1.5 miles of new 69-kV transmission line, building the new Leaside Way substation, rerouting about one mile of 138-kV line around the Leaside Way substation, upgrading six existing substations, and removing conductor from an existing 69-kV transmission line.
The new line will originate from the existing Summer Grove substation located near Dean Road, and will end at the proposed Leaside Way substation, located west of Old Mansfield Road, the company said.
As noted in a project fact sheet, the proposed location of the Leaside Way substation will be south of Boggy Bayou, west of Mansfield.
The project is part of a greater initiative to bolster the electrical system in the Shreveport-Bossier City area, according to the fact sheet.
The company said in its statement that construction is expected to be completed by late 2018, with restoration expected to be complete in early 2019.
