62-MW Marshall Solar project in Minnesota to go commercial on Jan. 9

The Marshall Solar LLC affiliate of NextEra Energy (NYSE: NEE) on Jan. 4 notified the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission that on Jan. 9, its 62-MW Marshall Solar Energy Project is expected to begin commercial operation.

Marshall Solar applied last June  at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for authorization to make market-based sales of energy, capacity and certain ancillary services under a market-based rate tariff. Its 62.25-MW project is located in Lyon County, Minnesota, within the Midcontinent ISO balancing authority area.

Marshall Solar has a long-term power purchase agreement with Northern States Power, a unit of Xcel Energy (NYSE: XEL), for 100% of the power produced by the facility, including the test energy.
