Northeast ending 2016 with big winter storm

The year will end with a bang as a coastal storm system is forecast to bring heavy snow to Upstate New York and interior New England, beginning by Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday.

Storm total accumulations of a foot or more are possible from the Adirondacks to western Maine, according to the National Weather Service. Gusty winds will also accompany the storm making travel across much of the region hazardous and difficult.
