E.ON starts construction on 228-MW Bruenning’s Breeze Wind

E.ON reported Dec. 15 that it has begun construction on its 228-MW Bruenning’s Breeze Wind project in Willacy County, Texas.

This will be E.ON’s 22nd wind farm nationwide and second in Willacy County, Texas. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017. Bruenning’s Breeze will consist of 76 turbines, which are 3-MW each, built by Acciona/Nordex

The wind facility holds a special emotional place for E.ON personnel, as it is named after Michelle Bruenning, a member of the E.ON legal team in Texas who passed away from cancer in 2014.

“Any time we begin construction on a wind farm is an exciting time for us, but beginning construction on this wind farm is especially poignant for us,” said Patrick Woodson, Chairman of E.ON North America. “Michelle Bruenning was a treasured colleague who was always looking for ways to help others, volunteering whenever an opportunity presented itself. For her funeral, Michelle asked that people wear Hawaiian shirts rather than black, because she wanted it to be a celebration.”

E.ON is currently also building the Radford’s Run Wind Farm, a 278-MW project in Macon County, Illinois. Both Radford’s Run and Bruenning’s Breeze are projected to be completed by the end of 2017.
