Mississippi Power CEO Anthony Wilson to keynote GenForum

Mississippi Power CEO Anthony Wilson will deliver a key address at the half-day GenForum event Dec. 12 in Orlando, Florida.

GenForum is a co-located event with the PennWell POWER-GEN slated for Dec. 12 through Dec. 15. Both events are being held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando.

GenForum will address the growing role of low-carbon non-CO2 generation in the Sun Belt. GenForum is organized by GenerationHub.

Among other things, Southern (NYSE:SO) utility Mississippi Power is developing the Kemper County integrated gasification combined-cycle project (IGCC). The advanced technology power plant will generate electricity through the gasification of Mississippi lignite coal. It will also employ carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Wilson became Mississippi Power’s Chairman in August, adding to his roles of President and CEO of the company.

Wilson has served as President since Oct. 19, 2015, following a vote of the board of directors. The leadership transition plan continued when he became CEO on Jan. 1, 2016.

A native of D’Iberville, Mississippi, he started his career with the company in 1984 in Biloxi as an engineering cooperative education student and worked his way through a variety of leadership roles with increasing levels of responsibilities before moving to Georgia Power in 2002.

While in Georgia, Wilson served in a variety of officer roles, including distribution vice president, transmission vice president, and customer service and operation executive vice president.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Mississippi State University and a MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi. He is also a graduate of the Oxford University Advanced Management Program.

Other speakers at the event include:

  • ScottMadden Management Consulting Partner Todd Williams who will discuss the “greening of the grid.” Williams is a co-leader of the firm’s fossil practice. Williams discussed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Power Plan during the December 2015 GenForum in Las Vegas.
  • Nuclear Economics Consulting Group Owner Edward Kee will give a nuclear power overview of this “endangered” carbon-free baseload fuel. A first-time GenForum speaker, Kee has decades of experience in the nuclear energy and electric power business. He has held previous posts with CRA International, and PA Consulting Group, among others. He served in the U.S. Navy and has an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
  • A speaker from the Chadbourne & Parke law firm will give an update on the recent state of federal tax credits for wind, solar and other renewables and how the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would regulate construction timelines for new renewable energy projects.
  • There will also be a panel discussion on the growth of renewable power, energy storage and its relationship with natural gas generation. Speakers will include; Department of Energy (DOE) Loan Programs Office Director for Technical and Project Management Michael Reed, Schulte Associates LLC Principal Bob Schulte and Beaufort Rosemary Management Director Kevin Casey.
