Firm intends to develop 80-MW solar project in Virginia

Geenex Solar, on behalf of Grasshopper Solar, LLC, has submitted a Notice of Intent to submit to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) plans for an 80-MW AC solar project.

The developer plans to submit the necessary documentation for a permit by rule for a small renewable energy solar project in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.

Geenex is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and has several projects in the development pipeline in North Carolina. There is a firm called Grasshopper Solar based out of Ontario, Canada.

The 80-MW AC ground-mounted solar photovoltaic facility would be located between Highway 47 and Highway 49 on approximately 913 acres just to the north of Chase City, Virginia.

The facility is currently designed with a single-axis tracking system utilizing approximately 285,286 polycrystalline 340 watt solar panels, according to a notice filed Nov. 21 with DEQ.
