Strata Solar wins North Carolina nod on 5-MW Verona Solar project

The Verona Solar LLC affiliate of Strata Solar LLC won an Oct. 4 approval from the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a July 27 application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity authorizing construction of a 5-MW (ac) solar facility.

The Verona Solar project site is located north of NC-55, east of the intersection with Mabry Road (also known as State Road 1538), and northwest of the intersection with Guy Road, near Angier, Harnett County, N.C. The facility is projected to come on-line in July 2017. Electricity generated will be sold to Duke Energy Progress under a 15-year power purchase agreement.

The service life of the equipment is expected to be a minimum of 20 years. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,000,000 kWh. The projected cost of the facility is $14 million.
