North Carolina commission okays 5-MW Badger Hill Solar project

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Oct. 18 approved an Aug. 12 application from Badger Hill Solar LLC for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for construction of a 4.998-MW (ac) solar facility to be located at 4432 South U.S. Highway 117, Rose Hill, Duplin County, North Carolina.

The applicatjon said the facility is projected to come on-line in December,2016. Electricity generated will be sold to Duke Energy Progress as a Qualified Facility under a 15-year power purchase agreement.

The service life of the equipment is expected to be a minimum of twenty years. The projected annual sales of the facility are estimated to be 9,450,000 kWh or more in the first full year of production. Estimated project cost is $14 million.
