Heritage Wind Farm to transfer 291-MW project in Alberta to NextEra

Heritage Wind Farm Developments Inc. filed an Oct. 20 request with the Alberta Utilities Commission for transfer of an approval for the 291-MW Heritage Wind Farm Power Plant to NextEra Canada Development & Acquisitions Inc.

Heritage is a 97-turbine, 291-MW project to be located in the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9. Heritage Wind Farm said it has a Sept. 13 deal to sell this project to NextEra, with the deal due to close around Nov. 30.

A February 2014 commission approval for a time extension of the project set a Dec. 31, 2017, deadline for project construction to be completed. The original application for the project had been filed in 2011. Heritage said at the time of the 2014 extension that it anticipated that the Goose Lake/Castle Rock Ridge to Chapel Rock 240/500-kV transmission line, which is required for the full production of the power plant, would not be fully operational until the fourth quarter of 2017.
