TVA contracts with firm for nuclear maintenance

During its latest meeting, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) board authorized management to enter into a contract with Day & Zimmermann for $950m with a term of seven years and an option to extend an additional three years for nuclear maintenance and modifications services.

That’s according to materials released in connection with TVA’s Aug. 25 board meeting held at Knoxville, Tenn.

TVA currently has an alliance contract with Day & Zimmermann to perform maintenance and modification work at TVA’s nuclear facilities. “This contract strategy allows TVA to support a diverse asset portfolio, improve operational reliability, and maintain low rates,” according to the TVA materials.

TVA looked at various suppliers before concluding that the firm provided the best value to TVA when looking at a variety of factors, according to the board material.

TVA operates the Browns Ferry nuclear plant in Alabama, the Sequoyah nuclear plant and the Watts Bar nuclear plant, which are both located in Tennessee.

Founded in 1901, Day & Zimmermann is a family-owned company with a workforce of over 50,000 specializing in construction & engineering, staffing and defense solutions for leading corporations and governments around the world.
