Shieldwall Solar LLC won a Sept. 27 approval of a July 5 application to the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity authorizing construction of a 5-MW (ac) solar facility to be located in Halifax County.
The facility will be located on the west side of Weavers Chapel Road (also known as State Road 1407), west of the intersection with U.S. 158, in Littleton, Halifax County, N.C.
The facility will consist of approximately sixty-three thousand (63,000) 110 Wp PV modules (or equivalent) affixed to ground-mounted racks supported on driven piles. It will utilize approximately one hundred seventy six (176) 30 kW inverters (or equivalent).
This $14 million development is projected to come on-line by March 2017. Electricity generated will be sold to Duke Energy Progress under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,000,000 kWh.
