North Carolina commission okays Strata’s 5-MW Mastiff Solar project

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Sept. 26 appoved a July 29 application from Mastiff Solar LLC for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity authorizing construction of a 5-MW (ac) solar facility to be located in Lenoir County, N.C.

The project site is located on the east side of Hillcrest Road, south of the intersection with the train tracks, and north of West Vernon Avenue, in Kinston, Lenoir County.

The $14 million facility is projected to come on-line in July 2017. Electricity generated will be sold to Duke Energy Progress under a 15-year power purchase agreement. The service life of the equipment is expected to be a minimum of twenty years. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,000,000 kWh.
