North Carolina commission okays 5-MW Turner Smith Solar project of FLS Energy

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Sept. 6 approved a February 2015 application from the Turner Smith Solar LLC affiliate of FLS Energy for a certificate of public convenience and necessity covering construction of a 4.99-MW (ac) solar facility to be located at 7648 NC Highway 61, Browns Summit, Guilford County, North Carolina.

The applicant plans to sell the electricity to Duke Energy Carolinas. The application, from last year, had said the projected date on which the facility was to come on-line was May 31, 2016. The service life of the project is 30 years. The projected annual sales would be 9,203,840 AC kWh.

Also on Sept. 6, the commission approved a February 2015 application from FLS Energy affiliate Cherry Grove Solar LLC for a certificate on a 4.99-MW (ac) solar facility to be located at 1050 Cherry Grove Road, Cerro Gordo, Columbus County, North Carolina. The applicant plans to sell the electricity to Duke Energy Progress. The application had a projected date on which the facility will come on-line of May 31, 2016.
