Strata Solar approved for 5-MW Wentworth solar project in North Carolina

The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Aug. 10 approved an April 14 application from Wentworth Farm LLC for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for construction of a 5-MW (ac) solar facility to be located on the south side of the intersection of NC Hwy 87 and Hancock Rd. at Reidsville in Rockingham County, North Carolina.

The applicant plans to sell the electricity to Duke Energy Carolinas under a 15 year power purchase agreement.

The application said the $14 million facility is projected to come on-line in May 2017. The service life of the equipment is expected to be a minimum of twenty years. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,000,000 kWh.
