Copious moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will bring several rounds of heavy rain to the central Gulf Coast states through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Significant flash flooding is possible across this area Friday. On Saturday, the rain will spread to the western Gulf Coast and extend to the Ohio Valley. Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms are possible across the central Plains Friday, with heavy rain here as well. The Weather Service also reports that lightning fatalities are on the rise this summer.
