Whitney Solar seeks North Carolina approval for 5-MW project

Whitney Solar LLC, backed by Headwaters Solar out of Asheville, N.C., filed on June 20 at the North Carolina Utilities Commission an application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity on a 5-MW (ac) solar project.

The location of the facility will be 6324 Whitney Rd., Graham, Alamance County, 1.6 miles north of the intersection of Whitney Road and Greensboro Chapel Hill Road.

The $7.8-million facility is projected to come on-line on Sept. 1, 2017, with all electricity output to be sold to Duke Energy Carolinas.
