Tri-State gives new name to Colorado coal production company

Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association said June 14 that Western Fuels-Colorado LLC has changed its name to Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation LLC.

Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tri-State. Since being formed in 1992, the organization now named Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation has operated the New Horizon coal mine near Nucla, Colorado. New Horizon supplies fuel to Tri-State’s nearby Nucla Station. The organization has also operated the Colowyo Mine near Meeker, Colorado, since 2011, and currently supplies coal to Tri-State’s Craig Station and has sold coal into the open market.

The organization’s two mines have received numerous awards for safety, reclamation and environmental protection.
