Severe thunderstorms possible for the Northern Plains, Midwest, elsewhere

Disturbances moving along a front stalled from the northern Plains to the Mid-Atlantic states will serve as a focusing mechanism for strong to severe thunderstorms over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Damaging winds and large hail are possible, along with an isolated tornado. In the Desert Southwest, extreme heat continues. Heat and humidity will increase from the south to the Midwest later in the week.
