FGE Power looks to advance 3,450-MW gas project in Texas

FGE Power recently put on its website an information section about its 3,450-MW FGE Eagle Pines project in Texas, which it hopes to have in initial operation in 2018.

Generation Hub had reported in September 2015, in an article that has been accessed a lot since then by subscribers, that this project was nearing an air permit from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Incidentally, that September 2015 article is posted in the media section of the FGE Power website.

FGE Eagles Pines is a three-phased 3,450-MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility, to be located in Cherokee County, Texas, the website says. Each of the three phases is 1,150 MW in size. The technology to be used is referred to as “Alstom/GE KA36.” The initial operation target is Fall 2018.

FGE Eagle Pines represents over $2.1 billion of direct investment in Cherokee County and the state of Texas, the website says. FGE Eagle Pines will create over 800 jobs during construction and over 40 permanent staff positions once fully operational (across Phase I, Phase II and Phase III).

The website said the project was recently awarded the largest air permit in state history by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The project will utilize non-potable water supply for the cooling system, allowing for drastically increased operational efficiency versus an air-cooled configuration while minimizing any impact on local water resources.

The website lists several FGE Eagle Pines partners, including:

  • Stonepeak Infrastructure
  • General Electric and Alstom Energy
  • SNC-Lavalin Constructors
  • EthosEnergy
  • Protos Energy
