PUCO picks Energy Ventures Analysis for Dayton fuel audit

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio on March 31 issued an order establishing consulting firm Energy Ventures Analysis (EVA) as the auditor for the latest fuel buying for the mostly coal-fired Dayton Power & Light.

On Feb. 10, the commission had issued an entry directing its staff to issue a request for proposal (RFP) for the audit services. Said the March 31 order: “The Commission finds that EVA has the necessary experience to complete the required work.

This RFP covered audit services for the year 2015, including any true-ups thereafter. The final audit is due to be filed with the commission on Aug. 23.

The auditor, among other things, needs to include in its investigation a market price comparison to be used as a tool to evaluate the reasonableness of the prices paid by DP&L for coal purchased during the audit period. The auditor also needs to include a review of the company’s environmental compliance activities, as they relate to fuel procurement and utilization.
