OPPD board approves contract related to transmission project

At its regular monthly meeting March 10, the Omaha Public Power District Board of Directors approved an electrical equipment labor contract for the Midwest Transmission Project.

The project, a partnership between OPPD and Kansas City Power & Light, involves constructing a new 180-mile 345-kV transmission line from near Sibley, Mo., to Nebraska City Station south of Nebraska City.

The contract, in the amount of $541,525, was awarded to Watts Electric Company of Waverly, Neb. Watts will perform substation work this summer to connect the new transmission line into the substation, including installing a line shunt reactor, circuit breakers, relay panels, switches and other components. This project will improve electric service reliability and relieve congestion on the power grid.
