Constellation builds 11-MW solar project in Arizona to serve Mohave Electric

UNS Electric and Mohave Electric Cooperative on Jan. 28 filed an application with the Arizona State Corporation Commission for approval of a “Borderline Agreement” related to an 11-MW solar project now in construction in Mohave County, Arizona.

The commission in March 2015 had approved a prior Borderline Agreement covering a 5-MW solar project in the UNS service territory that would supply power to Mohave Electric. This latest agreement covers an 11-MW project at the same site.

This 11-MW project is being developed by Constellation Solar Arizona 2 LLC, and Mohave Electric has contracted through a Solar Power Purchase Agreement for the project output. It is called the Mohave Sunrise Solar 2 project.

It is more reasonable for Mohave Electric to serve this property for the life of its solar power contract, the application noted.
