The North Carolina Utilities Commission on Jan. 20 approved an October 2015 application from Gilead Farm LLC for a certificate of public convenience and necessity covering construction of a 5-MW (ac) solar photovoltaic facility to be located on the east side of NC-109, east of the intersection with Mask Road at Mount Gilead in Montgomery County, North Carolina.
The $14 million facility will consist of approximately seventy thousand (70,000) 100Wp PV modules (or equivalent) affixed to ground mounted racks supported on driven piles. The facility will utilize approximately six 800kW inverters (or equivalent).
The facility is projected to come online in July 2016. Electricity generated will be sold to Duke Energy Progress under a 15 year power purchase agreement, the application said. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,000,000 kWh.
