Monroe Solar LLC on Jan. 6 was approved by the North Carolina Utilities Commission for a certificate of public convenience and necessity for a 4.5-MW (ac) solar facility to be located on the east side of Cave Road, south of the intersection with Caves Mill Road, near Dobson, Surry County, North Carolina.
The applicant plans to sell the electricity from this $18 million facility to Duke Energy Carolinas under a 15-year power purchase agreement.
The facility will consist of approximately fourteen thousand nine hundred fifteen (14,915) 340Wp PV modules (or equivalent) affixed to ground mounted racks supported on driven piles. it will utilize approximately three 1,500-kW inverters (or equivalent).
This solar farm is projected to come online in December 2016. The service life of the equipment is expected to be a minimum of 20 years. The projected annual sales of the facility are 9,127,980 kWh.
