AES Redondo Unit 6 returns to service in California

The AES (NYSE:AES) natural gas-fired Redondo Unit 6 in California returned to service Jan. 27, according to a Department of Energy (DOE) assurance report published Jan. 28.

The Redondo Beach Unit 6 had been shut Jan. 26 due to an unplanned outage, according to the DOE report. No further details were available.

The AES unit is a 1950s vintage project located the Los Angeles County community of Redondo Beach.

AES recently requested that the California Energy Commission (CEC) hold off until August before making any future rulings upon the AES application to build a new 496-MW gas-fired facility at Redondo Beach.

The plant could be mentioned during the next AES quarterly earnings call on Wednesday Feb. 24, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
